The 8th annual Hog Jog, held June 19 at the Ontario Pork Congress in Stratford was a huge success. Idyllic weather conditions set the stage for a perfect evening. A total of 463 registered participants ran or walked the 3.5k and 10k routes and an additional 50 runners aged 6 and under participated in the 500 meter Weaner run.
Together we raised $40,000 for Victim Services Bruce Grey Perth. A record 20 fund raising teams registered this year and the team from Wallenstein Feed are recognized as the top team fund raiser bringing in $14,000.
Sponsorship contributions this year fully funded the event insuring that all registration dollars can be donated to Victim Services. We thank our sponsorship Friends as well as Boehringer Ingelheim, CIBC, Merck, PIC Canada, Runner’s Wall, South West Ontario Veterinary Services and Vancea Financial Group for the their support of the Hog Jog.
Funds raised will help expand a few of the Victim Services programs including the purchase of emergency GPS tracking units which offers monitored panic alarms for high risk individuals and to develop transportation options for clients to access community resources.
This contribution to Victim Services, will be made in honour of Janet O’Rourke. Janet and her husband Kevin work together at O’Rourke Pork Farms Ltd in Dublin, Ontario. Following the death of a 25 year old employee who was very much part of the family, Janet reached out to Victim Services for support of her young family. Appreciating what Victim Services does, she joined the Board a few months later.
Victim Services of Bruce Grey Perth is a volunteer organization dedicated to providing short term emotional support, practical assistance and community referral to victims of crime and tragic circumstance in partnership with community and emergency services.
